Claude

Claude chat, Claude Cowork and Claude Code (Anthropic)

  • Cowork runs multi-step tasks, can read and write only files in folders you have connected, and can open sites, click and fill forms (browser actions). Source
  • Cowork has three permission modes: Manual (asks for approval), Auto (Claude reviews each action for safety) and Skip (no checks). Anthropic advises staying close or using Manual for work involving money, messages sent as you, or important files. Source
  • Cowork requires your explicit permission before permanently deleting files. Source
  • Cowork can run scheduled tasks (type /schedule); they run in the cloud without your computer on. Source
  • Cowork is available on paid Claude plans (Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise). Source
  • Claude Code's Manual (default) permission mode asks before shell commands and file edits; allow / ask / deny rules can be set. Source

ChatGPT

ChatGPT, including ChatGPT Work and its cloud browser (OpenAI)

  • OpenAI's help centre says ChatGPT agent is no longer available and points users to ChatGPT Work and its cloud browser. Source
  • The cloud browser asks permission before visiting a new website by default, pauses for sign-in, and is designed to ask for confirmation before hard-to-reverse actions or financial, legal, account or other real-world commitments. Source
  • Cloud browser is available in ChatGPT Work on paid plans in supported regions, excluding Free and Go. Source
  • Connected-app permissions can be set to Always ask, Allow read actions, Allow low-risk actions or (for some apps) Allow all actions; sending email or deleting records are examples of actions that may need review. Source

Gemini

Gemini Apps (Google)

  • Deep Research creates a research plan you can edit before it starts, uses Google Search by default, can add Gmail or Drive as sources when Google Workspace is connected, and usually takes 5-10 minutes. Source
  • Gemini can draft Gmail messages in chat (Google Workspace connected app required); drafts can be sent from Gemini or, on the web, opened with 'Edit in Gmail'. Source

Microsoft Copilot

Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot in Outlook and the Researcher agent

  • Copilot in Outlook can prioritise your inbox (with a reason), summarise threads, draft emails (Draft with Copilot) and coach on tone; it works on your primary mailbox only, not shared or delegate mailboxes. Source
  • The Researcher agent produces structured, source-cited reports from the web and (at work) files, emails, meetings and chats you can access; it may ask clarifying questions first. It is available to Microsoft 365 Premium and Pro subscribers and business users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot add-on licence. Source

Open agents & automations

Self-hosted agents such as OpenClaw and Hermes Agent, and workflow tools such as n8n

  • OpenClaw is an open-source (MIT), self-hosted gateway connecting chat apps to AI agents. Source
  • OpenClaw exec approvals support deny, allowlist, ask, auto and full modes; the docs state the default security is 'full' for gateway/node hosts with ask 'off', and a 'cautious' preset (allowlist + ask on miss) exists. Source
  • OpenClaw automation (cron) approvals go only to connected approval clients; with none connected the request is denied immediately. Source
  • Hermes Agent (Nous Research) is free and open source under MIT, with persistent memory, scheduling and messaging-platform connections. Source
  • n8n can require human approval before an AI Agent runs a specific tool: the workflow pauses and a reviewer approves or denies via Chat, Slack, Teams, Gmail, Telegram and other channels. Source
